What is the purpose of the Survey?
The purpose of the Survey is to measure the relative support for plausible candidates for the 2004 U.S.Presidential election.
When did the Survey begin?
The Survey began September 13, 2003.
When will the Survey end?
The Survey will end November 4, 2004.
Who was in the Survey to start?
Initially John Kerry, Howard Dean, Wesley K. Clark and Dennis Kucinich.
George W. Bush, John Edwards and Ralph Nader were added in the first week.
What happens when a candidate drops out of the race?
Candidates who drop out are removed.
If they endorse another candidate, one half their votes are transfered to the candidate they endorse.
On February 23, 2004, Howard Dean who then had 255 votes and Wesley Clark who then had 410 votes were removed.
In August 2004 Dennis Kucinich, who had 212 votes was removed.
How can new people be included in the Survey?
The Survey includes a nomination facility whereby the names of new people along with a few biographical sentences can be added.
Joke names are removed.
In what order do the names appear?
The names are ranked by number of votes.
Are there any measures in place to reduce multiple voting by the same person?
Yes.
Now a verified email address is required.
Earlier an IP monitoring system was used.
(If a person voted, the person's choice, the time the vote was made and the remote address, also known as the IP or machine number,
that the vote originated from was inserted into a database table. If the remote address was similar to that of a remote address from
which the same choice was made within a short period the vote was not counted.)
