melissa dadourian

Biography: Melissa Dadourian received a BFA from Pratt Institute and MFA in Combined Media and Painting from Hunter College. She has exhibited Internationally and New York and has been awarded residencies at the American Academy in Rome and at the Cite des Arts in Paris. Her work explores aspects of identity and self-perception as culturally learned beliefs, dealing with the interplay between revealing and veiling, seesawing between the two. Both in painting and video, the image of the female body is used, both as abstract form, as well as the center of desire. In the paintings, hair, breasts and curves are fragmented reflections in motion, not complete but only a fleeting visualization. With a delicate and searching line, the edges of the figure are traced in paint, then layered one on top of the other, overlapping image and memory.
