Renee Nemerov

Biography: Born in New York City. Studied art with Rufino Tamayo at Dalton, Camillo Egas at The New School, and Jean Liberte at the Art Students League—all in New York City. Also received art training from Robert Friemark and Guy Pallazola at the Crystal Lake Art Center, Frankfort, Michigan, and from the Swiss impressionist, Hanseggar. Taught sculpture at Interlochen National Music Camp, Interlochen, Michigan. A painter and sculptor, the fluid lines characteristic of her style are sometimes organized into abstract compositions, but more often she avoids the purely non-objective and is primarily concerned with conveying the emotional essence of a subject or landscape through form and color. She assisted her late husband Roy Sparkia in designing and creating the Empire State Building illuminated panels depicting the 7 wonders of the world, and the 8th—the Empire State Building. These 5’ x 7’ crystal resin and stained glass panels were installed in the lobby in 1963. Renee Nemerov is the daughter of artist David Nemerov, sister of Howard Nemerov, former Poet Laureate of the United States, and noted photographer Diane Arbus. She is now married to artist Tom Brown.
