Martha Ashkenazi

Biography: Born (1962 Prague) and classically educated in Eastern Europe she is now living and working in Australia. Extensively exhibiting and represented in Australia and overseas. In her work she combines two materials which are shaped by heat, namely bronze and glass. She juxtaposes expressive figurative work with elegance and fragility of glass. As a unifying factor she uses tonality of both materials and thus giving a rare unity and expression to functional pieces, elevating them from mere objects. She uses lost wax technique for casting limited edition of sculptures in bronze and for glass elements she sometimes commissions renowned Australian glass blowers.
