Eric Deis

Biography: Eric Deis is an emerging interdisciplinary artist from Vancouver, Canada. He has produced impactful works in video, installation, digital media, sculpture, drawing, and photography. Deis is a graduate of Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Vancouver (B.F.A.) and the University of California, San Diego (M.F.A.). As an interdisciplinary artist, Deis received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A) in Visual Arts from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design (ECIAD) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where he studied with David MacWilliam, Gu Xiong, David Rimmer, and Dennis Burke. He has recently completed a Master of Fine Arts Degree (MFA) at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where he is studying under the guidance of Sheldon Brown, Alain J.J Cohen, Jordan Crandall, and Barbara Kruger. Deis is also a graduate student researcher for the <a class="data" href="http://www-crca.ucsd.edu">Centre for Research in Computing and the Arts</a> at UCSD and a research fellow for the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology. The work of the young contemporary artist has been exhibited in Canada, USA, Denmark, Ireland, Brazil, and Germany where he most recently won the City of Stuttgart Award for New Media (2002). Since 1997, Eric Deis has worked in collaboration with <a class="data" href="http://www.johngregball.com"> Edmonton Industrial Designer, John Greg Ball http://johngregball.com</a> on projects ranging from public sculpture, academic writing, to web design. Eric began his career as a Visual artist in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at Red Deer College in 1997 where he studied ceramics and sculpture with Chuck Wissinger, design and drawing with Graham Page and Ian Cook, and Painting and Art History with James Trevelyan.
