Deborah Koff-Chapin

Biography: Deborah Koff-Chapin BFA Cooper Union In 1974, I discovered Touch Drawing in a moment of playful exploration. When touching a paper towel that had been placed on a freshly inked printing plate, I found that the pressure formed marks on the underside. Lines coming directly from my fingertips! I laughed hysterically with this discovery. In a state of ecstatic revelation, childlike spontaneous images began to pour through my hands. Although this experience had the appearance of simply being play, under the surface was something profound and powerful. I knew this process was not for myself alone. It was as if I was receiving a gift from outside of time, from an invisible knowing presence. Over the years, my drawings evolved from personal expression to transpersonal imagery. Now, in deep focus and trust, I listen within and translate subtle impulses onto the page through the touch of my fingertips. Touch Drawing serves as a vehicle for direct and spontaneous expression of the subtle realms. Deborah Koff-Chapin originated the simple yet profound process of Touch Drawing ™ in 1974. She is creator and publisher of SoulCards 1 and 2. The original deck has sold over 45,000 copies worldwide. Deborah is author of Drawing Out Your Soul, The Touch Drawing Handbook. She has taught internationally and is founding director of The Center for Touch Drawing. She is an artist of High Being." Dr. Jean Houston Author, Search for the Beloved, Jump Time “The images are magnificent shimmers that evoke deep wonder. Though each painting was done intuitively, it radiates rootedness in reality. What a wonderful relief from New Age artists who cannot paint the mystical without leaving the earth behind." Creation Spirituality Magazine "The artistry of Koff-Chapin moves the viewer's imagination into personal depths: each picture, a holograph of sung and unsung memories. I feel pulled to look at the pictures again and again. The world needs more of (her) touch." Helen Lindquist Bonny, Ph.D. Co-author, Music and Your Mind, "The drawings have captured a deep and mysterious element of both pain and uplift..."
