Napoleon Mordas Biography: Napoleon Wojciech Mordas Sculptor, Consignment Artist 1156 Victory Hwy. North Smithfield, RI 02896 Phone: 401 765 5365 artist’s statement and biographical account Biography Napoleon Wojciech Mordas, was born January 22, 1961 in Bialystok, Poland, where he received his education in art technique, art history and technology. As an adolescent, Napoleon had the good fortune of being surrounded by a few talented artists, and while they were socially dysfunctional by most standards, he remains appreciative of their artistic direction during his most impressionable years. In I984 he immigrated to the United States where, for several years, he functioned as a master jewelry model maker for Monet Co., in Manhattan, New York. In the years to follow, he worked as a subcontractor for other costume jewelers such as Judith Lieber, Napier and Joan Rivers. He continues to make a living from the profession while sculpting. By 1999 the artist had developed a casting machine, to further enable him in his efforts to create original sculptures. As is the case with many artists, Napoleon has traveled throughout Italy to engage in a personal study of the classical virtuosos. Still, he is spirited by geographical favorites, such as Paris, Bermuda and the Rocky Mountains in Utah. Artist’s Statement With the human figure as his primary subject, Napoleon’s work may be described as an intimate manifestation of his subconscious, tastefully executed in a curious assembly of pewter, bronze, bone and epoxy. Primarily, the artist strives to “articulate” the relationships between women and men from the perspective of passion, politics and even repugnance. With the assistance of his casting machine, the artist is able to create life size, as well as smaller size sculptures. Finally, Napoleon’s motivation is sparked by his family and close friends, including an unexplained desire to share with others, as eloquently as possible, his most powerful language.
