Maureen Maki Biography: I currently live and work in Los Angeles. I have been painting and showing my art since I was 15 years old and have never stopped making art. It has become a way of life, a way for me to experience and interpret my world. I attended art school at the University of Michigan and concentrated on Printmaking. I have run independent galleries, showed my work in galleries, received grants, and sold my work online. I continuously struggle with ways to make a living doing what I love in the U.S. My recent work involves paper as the medium. I am using beautiful Japanese papers and any types of paper with images I like, as paint. I collage and paint over and draw. The process feels natural and reunites me to some degree with printmaking, a medium I love. The images come from everyday life with a focus on technology, communication, and connections. I have been drawing computers, guitars, phones, and all sorts of electronic devices that are connected via electrical cords.
