Gail Miller |
| Biography:
I have been drawing and painting since a young age and after taking my Arts Foundation Course, I took my B.A. degree (in knitwear design) at Nottingham Trent University between 1978 and 1982. After working in industry and freelancing as a knitwear designer for National newsstand magazines and yarn companies until 1986, I then spent the next 15 years or so bringing up my children, one of which has special needs. During this time I actually wrote a book entitled "Wild Child" which was published in the UK in 1998. Nowadays, as the children are older, I have more time to devote to my art.
I like to think my work is uplifting, inspiring and cheerful and I am influenced by everything and anything. Usually working in combinations of vibrant colours, in often quirky contrasts, I try to affect the viewer both visually and emotionally. I don't necessarily strive for deep meaning in my paintings, rather, a what you see is what you get philosophy, encompassing many of my own personal interests and inspirations.
I just love creating things of beauty, and if other people love them also - then all the better! I am passionate about my art and each time I begin work on a new piece I marvel at the unlimited opportunities available to me for discovery and personal expression. Artistic influence comes from the work of Klee, Van Gogh, Klimt and many others.
