|Laura Knight||Biography: Handcut steel into many shapes and etched for catching the light.
Arranged into layers to create metal wall art in a Sculptural Relief style. The pieces are welded into place and some steel is specially coated with steel dyes or heat. Designs are made with handbent steel rods for lyrical shapes. The finish is a professional grade clear coat to enhance color and protect the surface of the metal.
Born in San Francisco and raised in Santa Monica.
Ms. Knight has been working with metals for 35 years. Beginning with metal casting at 16 years old. Following that, she welded copper for a few more years then moved onto another art form: Batik.
She successfully sold numerous Batik Paintings at art shows throughout the midwest and west coast.Returning to Los Angeles from Arizona, Ms. Knight worked for Disney and various film print production companies as an artist.
Eventually, she took up welding again.Calling upon her lifetime experience as an artist, Ms. Knight developed metal art pieces that have a distinctive style. Ms. Knight is also a private pilot, having flown single and twin engine planes. Being an outdoor enthusiast and lifelong body surfer, her love of the ocean is reflected in her subject matter.
Her appreciation for mountains and all animals has lead her to be sought after by conservation groups for representation and donation of works to raise funds. Of which the Wild Dolphin Foundation and Heal the Bay conservatories have benefitted from auction money obtained by Ms. Knight's art.
