Born in Los Angeles in 1938, L.Ray studied art in Southern California. He
received his Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Long Beach and his Master of Fine Arts, in painting, from Claremont Graduate School, Claremont, California. Ray's art spans from commissioned murals-most notably, a 9-foot by 14-foot mural in the Los Angeles City Hall and a 44-foot mural in the Long Beach, California airport-to contemporary watercolors and acrylics. Now retired from mural painting he focuses on transparent watercolors. L.Ray feels that there is nothing remotely like watercolor for delicacy and lightness. He pulls his subject material from different sources unrelated in time, to reveal the imaginary place we yearn to see.
